Newsgroup Setup: Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering on Outlook Express

1. Connect to the Internet and Launch Outlook Express. At the menu at the top of the screen, select "Tools" and then "Accounts."

2. In the Internet Accounts window, select the News tab. Click "Add" and then "News."

3. An Internet Connection Wizard will appear. Type your real name in the Display name field. Then click Next.

4. Type in your email address (you can use any kind of email address, such as @yahoo or @hotmail) and click Next.

5. In the News (NNTP) server: field, type rockbit.pete.metu.edu.tr. Put a check in the box that reads "My news server requires me to log on." Then click Next.

6. In the Account name field:

Students use your own accounts given by Petroleum and Natural Gas Department while connecting to the newsgroups server.

In the Password field, enter your password. It is optional whether or not you wish to have Outlook Express remember your password. However, It is advised not to do that against stealing your password or using your account by others instead of you. Every logging on, type your password again. Then click Next.

9. Outlook Express will now prompt you to download newsgroups. Then hit Yes.

10. That's it! You may now begin searching for newsgroups of your interest or lectures. Select and Subscribe them.

NOTE: While logging on to the newsgroups server, you may see this logon screen on your computer. Only fill your password and not to worry about Domain Name.
